Boss Strategies
Boss fights are the punctuation marks of Gadola's calendar — multi-phase tests of guard timing, cleanse discipline, and companion synergies you have been building since the first training day. This guide breaks down major mandatory bosses, notable optional elites, and finale phases with recommended parties, intent counters, and action point budgets so you can enter each fight with a plan instead of a reload.
General Boss Prep
Before any boss evening: save on a fresh slot (Save Points), stock three heals and one cleanse, confirm party loyalty, and review intent cheats on this page. Spend the prior day on stat training if below breakpoints in Action Point Builds. Optional buff meals from Market District last one fight.
Recommended default party for unknown bosses: Renna (taunt), Suri (cleanse), flexible DPS (Kael or Vessa), Hills. Swap Dorian in for shield-heavy nobles; Pike for add-heavy mobs.
Chapter 1 — Wharf Enforcer
Phase 1: Single elite with telegraphed smash (3-turn cycle). Guard on smash turns; attack on buff turns.
Phase 2 at 40% HP: Adds two minions — prioritize kill on add spawn turn before they buff boss.
Party tip: Renna taunt redirects smash from Hills if guard AP low. Micoco assist available — use Interrupt on smash wind-up.
Loss here is common for new players; retry is expected in Early Game.
Chapter 2 — Audit Golem
Construct boss immune to Bleed; weak to shield break. Dorian or Pike gadgets required for reasonable clear times.
Intent pattern: Charge → Laser (line AoE) → Self-shield. Break shield during Charge window; move party out of line before Laser resolves.
Bring Purify for Burn stacks from laser splash. Bench Kael unless built for Suppress delay on Charge only.
Chapter 3 — Noble Duelist Ser Vant
Human boss with riposte counters — attacking during riposte stance damages attacker. Intent shows stance change one turn early.
Strategy: Delay or skip attacks on riposte turns; burst on opening turns after Suri Shelter if poison blades applied.
High Presence unlocks pre-fight dialogue that removes one riposte phase — attend ballroom scene with Lady Serenne.
Mid-Game Optional — Tunnel Brood
Optional elite in Hidden Locations; drops rare schematic. Swarm phases — Pike traps plus Hills AoE. Suri Shelter during hatch turn.
Skip if under-leveled; no story block if ignored.
Chapter 4 — Captain Dresche
Two-phase fight mixing nobles and guards. Phase 1: add waves; Phase 2: Dresche buffs allies until two guards remain.
Key: Kill guards simultaneously within one turn window using Pike Detonation or Kael ult — prevents infinite reinforce loop.
Exposure must be moderate or guards call reinforcements from city watch — tie-in to How to Protect.
Chapter 5 — Archive Warden
Puzzle-boss hybrid. Interact with tomes on field while Warden channels seal intent. Failure to interact spawns debuff zones.
Micoco mandatory assist — link finisher interrupts seal. Dorian Shatter speeds tome vulnerability windows.

Finale — Triad Convergence
Three back-to-back phases without full heal between (partial regen only). Phase A: ranged harrier — close distance fast. Phase B: dual targets — focus one while guarding shared AoE. Phase C: enrage timer — delay skills weaken after turn 8; burst with Orin Dawn Break and Micoco link.
True route assist requires Micoco Trust ≥ 70 and three loyal companions. See True Ending for narrative outcomes.
Recovery After Defeat
Reload, adjust party passives, craft upgraded weapons, or spend one day grinding EXP in Market slums. If intents feel unreadable, enable Tactical Pause and review Combat Basics intent section.
Consumable Budget per Boss
Wharf Enforcer: 2 Minor Salves. Audit Golem: 2 Minor + 1 Cleanse. Ser Vant: 2 Guard Tonics + 1 Major Salve. Dresche: 3 Major + Cleanse + Bomb Shard optional. Archive Warden: 3 Major + 2 Cleanse + interact patience. Triad: 5 Major + 3 Cleanse + buff meals — see Items Hub prep lists.
Under-budgeting heals causes unwinnable wars of attrition even with correct tactics. Over-budgeting wastes coin that could upgrade weapons — use table as minimum, not exact shopping list.
Phase Transition Telltales
Bosses flash white border on phase change; intents reset; queued delays may clear. Reapply debuffs before bursting. Micoco link meter persists across phases in assist fights — do not waste link finisher on phase one cleanup. Some phases add environmental hazards (laser lines, debuff zones) — reposition before offense.
Retry Strategy Without Save Scumming
On same-evening retries, enemy patterns are fixed per seed — learn intents rather than praying for RNG. Swap party passives first (bench Pike for Dorian on shield bosses). Upgrade one weapon tier before third retry. If still failing after three attempts, spend next day on training per Action Point Builds — brute force stats is valid on time-management RPGs.
Party Swap Mid-Campaign
You can change party at any city map moment before accepting a fight. Story locks are rare and telegraphed. Maintain at least four trained companions so swaps do not mean level gaps — bench EXP rules from All Companions help but are slower than active participation.
Recording Your Own Notes
Boss phases are consistent across attempts — players often screenshot intent sequences on turn one of each phase. Share patterns with wiki editors if you discover variant seeds on Nightmare; Standard seeds match this guide as of launch patch 1.0.2.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which boss is the hardest?
Player surveys rank Archive Warden and Triad Phase C highest due to mechanics plus DPS checks. Both have checkpoint saves on Standard difficulty.
Can I retry bosses without losing the day?
Story bosses retry same evening on defeat in most modes. Optional elites may lock until next day — tooltips warn when applicable.
Are boss levels fixed?
Story bosses scale mildly with chapter; optional elites scale with highest companion level. Over-leveling via grinding trivializes some but not puzzle mechanics.
Do I need Micoco for every boss?
Only flagged assist fights require her. Mandatory assists are listed in chapter headings above.
What if I lack Dorian for shield bosses?
Pike gadgets and Hills guard-pierce perk can substitute with longer fights. Farm upgrades from All Items.
Does difficulty change boss patterns?
Nightmare adds intent fakes and shorter enrage timers. Story mode simplifies add counts.
